Both the EX90 and ES90 are built on Volvo’s SPA2 platform, which features advanced 800V electrical architecture. The EX90 is a 7-seater SUV, offering a 384-liter boot and a 45-liter trunk, while the ES90 is a 5-seater sedan with a 424-liter boot and a 27-liter trunk. In terms of dimensions, the EX90 measures 5,037mm in length, 1,964mm in width, and 1,744mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,985mm. Design highlights include a sleeker interpretation of Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer LED DRLs, a prominent roof-mounted LiDar sensor, 20-inch alloy wheels, C-shaped rear LED tail lamps, and minimal body cladding.
The ES90 incorporates elements reminiscent of the previous S90 model, such as the Thor’s Hammer DRLs and a revised grille-less front fascia. It also sports updated LED taillights, an option for 22-inch alloy wheels for Indian customers, and rear design changes aimed at creating a more contemporary look.
Performance options globally for both models include two battery pack choices: a 92 kWh pack with a rear single motor delivering 333 horsepower and 480 Nm of torque, and a 106 kWh twin-motor setup generating 456 horsepower and 670 Nm of peak torque. The 92 kWh EX90 accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.6 seconds, while the ES90 Twin Motor achieves the same in 5.4 seconds, according to company figures.
Inside, both vehicles share a similar premium cabin layout, including a 14.5-inch Google-based touchscreen infotainment system, a 13.2-inch heads-up display, a digital driver’s display, and premium leather upholstery. The EX90 features a split center console with open space, whereas the ES90 offers enclosed storage. The EX90 retains its standard 7-seater arrangement, while the ES90 offers a 5-seat configuration, with possibilities for additional seating layouts in select markets.
Volvo, maintaining its longstanding reputation for safety, promises a comprehensive suite of advanced safety features in both vehicles. These include a digital key, four-zone climate control, cabin air purification, wireless charging, 360-degree camera system, powered and ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, Bose surround audio system, auto park assist, Level 3 advanced driver assistance, and seven airbags as standard. The EX90 already holds a 5-star crash safety rating from Euro NCAP, while the ES90’s crashworthiness is yet to be evaluated.
The launch of the EX90 SUV and ES90 sedan positions Volvo to capture a larger share of India’s evolving premium electric vehicle market by offering Indian consumers a combination of luxury, cutting-edge technology, and advanced safety. The company’s strategy, as stated by CarBike360, underscores Volvo’s commitment to delivering an elevated EV experience at the top end of the market, with full specifications and pricing expected to be disclosed at the official launch.
