The U.S. dollar edged higher on Thursday on expectations the currency would be boosted next year by policies by the incoming Donald Trump administration that are expected to boost growth and lift inflation. Trading volumes were light on Thursday with many traders on holiday after Wednesday’s Christmas holiday and before next week’s New Year holiday.

Open FlipSumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG) of Japan on Thursday said it has made a capital infusion of ₹3,000 crore in SMFG India Credit Co Ltd (SMICC) through a rights issue to expand business. This investment also includes ₹300 crore directed towards its wholly-owned subsidiary, SMFG India Home Finance Co. Ltd (SMFG Grihashakti).
