The CAT 355 is driven by a CAT C13B engine delivering 332 kW, or 445 horsepower, and the machine’s operating weight of up to 54,000 kg puts it firmly in the heavy-duty excavator category. Designed for challenging applications such as strenuous digging and material handling, the 355 provides a maximum system pressure of 35 MPa (350 bar), which Caterpillar says equips it for demanding site work.
Buyers of the CAT 355 can choose between two bucket configurations depending on their operational needs: a 4.0 cubic metre Severe Duty bucket or a larger 4.5 cubic metre Heavy Duty bucket. The excavator is fitted with a 6.55-metre boom and a 2.5-metre stick, while a wide 4,040 mm undercarriage (W-VG specification) is intended to ensure stability and performance in tough conditions.
Caterpillar has also introduced three selectable operating modes for the CAT 355, allowing operators to tailor performance to the task at hand. Power mode is designed for maximum output, Smart mode aims to offer a balance between power and efficiency, and Eco mode is optimized for jobs where energy savings are a priority. This adaptability is positioned as a key advantage for operators who may need to switch between high-intensity and less demanding tasks on a given project.
Alongside the equipment launch, Caterpillar is promoting a range of customer-focused support solutions at Bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2026. These include Extended Equipment Protection Plans, CAT Finance offers, and Customer Value Agreements (CVAs) designed to provide ongoing support throughout the ownership period. According to the company, services feature next-day parts availability and two-day repair support to help minimize downtime for customers.
The CAT 355 is also available under an EMI scheme with monthly installments of ₹4,85,000, part of Caterpillar’s broader push to make high-capacity machinery more accessible to Indian customers. At the event, visitors can explore a variety of attachments, including buckets, hammer lines, and tool kits, to further customize the excavator for specific requirements.
With its combination of a 445 HP engine, up to 54,000 kg operating weight, configurable bucket capacities up to 4.5 cubic metres, and multiple operating modes, Caterpillar is positioning the CAT 355 as a solution for contractors and operators seeking both high performance and reliable aftermarket support. The new launch underscores the company’s focus on offering both machinery and ownership solutions tailored for India’s fast-growing infrastructure and construction sectors.
