Ashish Kacholia's investment in ESDS has emerged as one of the most dramatic success stories of the recent IPO season. Kacholia, who acquired shares at Rs 164 apiece in October 2024, initially invested Rs 6.14 crore in the company. By the IPO, he held about 24.6 lakh shares. At the IPO issue price of Rs 429, his stake was valued at around Rs 103 crore. Following a surge in the stock, the current market value of this holding has jumped to approximately Rs 433 crore, translating into over 70 times returns in less than two years.
Mukul Agrawal, another recognized name among public market investors, has also recorded substantial gains. According to ESDS's offer document, Agrawal had a pre-IPO holding of 70.3 lakh shares, representing around a 7 percent stake in the company. At the issue price, his holding was valued at roughly Rs 302 crore. With the stock's current trajectory, that stake is now worth an estimated Rs 1,176 crore.
ESDS Software Solution's Rs 720-crore IPO saw overwhelming demand from investors, with the public offering subscribed 136 times during its August 28 to September 1 bidding window. The IPO price band was set between Rs 408 and Rs 429 per share, and trading commenced on September 4 with a strong listing pop. The surge in the stock price has been attributed to strong demand for the company’s artificial intelligence-enabled cloud, managed services, data centre infrastructure, and software solutions, which are seen as key drivers in India’s digital transformation.
Within days of its listing, the stock’s meteoric rise underscores the appetite among investors for technology and digital infrastructure businesses, even as it raises questions about valuations compared to established peers. ESDS’s breakout market cap reflects robust confidence in its future growth potential, although market experts urge caution and careful due diligence given the sharpness of the rally.
