US stocks back at records while European bourses retreat

Wall Street indices, including the S&P 500 and Nasdaq, reached record highs following Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's comments that inflation has abated and the labor market remains strong. The Dow rose 0.4% to 39,331.85, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq gained 0.6% and 0.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, European markets retreated due to concerns over the French election, with the CAC 40.
