The Stopover Program enables Lufthansa passengers flying through Munich to add a short stay to their journey, transforming a routine transfer into a chance to experience the Bavarian state capital and its attractions. Twelve partners are currently participating in the program, offering options such as hotel accommodations, rental cars, sightseeing activities, and shopping opportunities. Travelers can design their stopover flexibly, with stays ranging from 24 hours up to seven days. Interested passengers can book the program directly through Lufthansa’s website.
Heiko Reitz, Executive Board Member and Hub Manager Munich for Lufthansa, stated that there is strong demand among travelers to discover Munich and Bavaria as added destinations, not just as transit points. Reitz emphasized that the Stopover Program allows visitors to engage with local culture, cuisine, and tourist attractions while facilitating future expansion into further markets and partnerships. The goal, he said, is to offer an even wider array of options to international travelers arriving or transiting through Munich.
Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport, highlighted Bavaria's reputation as one of Germany's most popular destinations and noted the positive impact this initiative is expected to have on local tourism providers and businesses. According to Lammers, the program demonstrates the strength of collaboration between the airport and the airline in directing international travel demand toward local offerings.
