Asian shares extend global sell-off, dollar holds gains

Gold prices declined on Tuesday as the U.S. dollar strengthened, with investors anticipating additional remarks from Federal Reserve officials to gain insight into the potential timing of interest rate adjustments. Spot gold decreased by 0.5% to $2,312.29 per ounce by 1218 GMT, while U.S. gold futures also fell by 0.5% to $2,320.60 per ounce. The dollar index rose by 0.2% against its counterpart.

Adhesive and construction chemicals manufacturer Pidilite Industries Ltd on Tuesday (May 7) reported a 6.4% year-on-year (YoY) increase in net profit at ₹304.3 crore for the fourth quarter that ended March 31, 2024. In the corresponding quarter, Pidilite Industries posted a net profit of ₹285.9 crore, the company said in a regulatory filing. CNBC-TV18 poll had predicted a profit of ₹415 crore.

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) on May 7 started hearing tech giant Google's appeal against the order by Competition Commission of India (CCI) imposing a penalty of Rs 936 crore for abusing its dominant position in the playstore ecosystem.The appellate tribunal is expected to continue the hearing on May 8. Senior advocate Sajan Poovayya appeared for the tech giant.
