The Indian rupee plunged 9 paise to hit the record low of Rs 85.83 against the US dollar in early trade on January 8, which is 0.069 per cent lower than Rs 85.77 an all time low touched on January 4. The decline in the rupee is due to the strengthening of the American dollar and the rise in crude oil prices. Guyana's oil exports surged 54% to 582,000 barrels per day in 2023, driven by European refiners demand for easy-to-process sweet crudes, with 66% of exports going to Europe, where refineries favor Guyana's lighter grades over heavy sour oil from other Latin American countries. Shapoorji Pallonji group firm Afcons Infrastructure Ltd on Wednesday (January 8) said it has issued a corrigendum to its earlier communication dated January 3, 2025, regarding the receipt of a ₹1,084.54 crore contract from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for infrastructure work on an EPC basis, scheduled for completion within 36 months.
