The income tax department has reportedly sent out notices to several startups, including some leading unicorns or those with valuations above a billion dollars, over unaccounted investments made between FY 2019 and 2021. The tax authorities have sought an explanation of the nature and source of the funds. The tax notices were served under Section 68 of the Income-Tax Act.
