India's generic medicines comply with global trade rules

India supplies nearly 20% of global generic medicines and has a WTO-compliant intellectual property rights regime, but the US has placed it on the Priority Watch List in the 2026 Special 301 Report due to pharmaceutical-related intellectual property protection and enforcement concerns. India's generics industry exports $9.7 billion worth of medicines annually.
