India introduces low-cost weight-loss meds, challenging Novo Nordisk

India's domestic drugmakers launched generic versions of Novo Nordisk's GLP-1 weight-loss drug semaglutide, undercutting the original price by up to 80%. Top generic manufacturer Sun Pharmaceutical launched semaglutide for 750 rupees ($8) a week or 3,400 rupees a month, compared to Novo's 8,800-10,000 rupees. At least 50 Indian brands plan to launch generics, aiming to expand access worldwide.
