Families seek old silver's hidden value

Indian households sold an estimated 100 tonnes of old silver in one week due to high prices, which have jumped 137% compared to last year, currently trading at Rs 1.79 lakh for 1 kg of 999 purity. Consumers are shifting towards higher denominations and long-term investments, while silver-backed ETFs added almost 200 tons, hitting their highest level since 2022.
