Bharatmala Phase 1 completion deadline extended by 6 years to 2027-28

The Union government has extended the deadline for its Bharatmala Phase-I highway development project to 2027-28, six years from the original schedule, due to a 100% increase in estimated cost to nearly Rs 11 trillion and financial constraints. The project aims to construct 34,800 km of national highways in 31 states and UTs.
